We stayed at the Barong in Feb, they had the 50% discount banner across the entrance. While at the reception desk one morning a couple were trying to book a room for 12 nights, they were told 250,000 per night - now at the exchange rate that was about $39 yet we only pay $36 (adv in Bali Budget book). They offered 200,000 but the receptionist wouldn't go below 225,000. They left, now I know that we are talking around $7 a night differance here but my thing is:
the hotel was only about 30% occupied, would it not have been better to take the 200,000 a night for the 12 nights (about $370) and assume this couple would perhaps also buy some drinks and food whilst staying rather than leave the room empty? The hotel wasn't going to employ extra staff for one couple and being so empty at the time it didn't make sense to me.
