HOnestly while you need to take enough to keep you secure, and I realize that's harder if you've got chronic conditions, you can easily go overboard.
This time last year I was still in the process of recovering from a very very bad back injury, and I took a hot water bottle with me! I must be the only person in the world to have travelled to a tropical island with a hottie!! BUT, it was the only reliable pain relief that worked for me at the time. I never once regretted taking it there!!
SO, the long and the short is take what you think will make you feel safer.
On the clothes front we take about 2 pairs of shorts each, and a couple of top, and undies. That's it.
