First up I guess that you will (or already have) a package tour where there is some accommodation included with your return air fare. The accommodation is most probably in one of the tourist areas in the very southern tip of the island; Tuban, Kuta, Legian, Seminyak or Sanur. While Bali is not a big island and you can get from any of these districts to anywhere else on the island in one day and as it is your first trip it is probable that where you are staying will determine where you do most of your eating, drinking, shopping, sight-seeing and so on.
The link below (just click on the coloured words) will take you to a new site which is all about Bali. If you look at the top of the left hand column you will see another link called Travel Forum Recommendations. Click on that and you will get an introduction and then an alphabetical list of all sorts of places and things. First of all find the district you are staying in and see what recommendations there are there about shopping, eating, hiring drivers etc. If you are interested in learning a bit more about Bali before you get there then go back to the first page and click on 'Rice', 'Religion', or any of the other topics.
