We have been on this route five times, always with a driver. The roads are narrow, twisty, and largely unmarked. If you ask me, they barely qualify as roads. The scenery is lovely, so why not hire a driver and enjoy the view? Let him watch the road. He knows where he's going and can ask for directions from the locals if he doesn't. You, on the other hand, may not know where the gas stations are, or how much to pay the local constabulary if you're stopped. Get a driver.
