Stayed in Penestanan (20 minute walk/stroll from Ubud market) at Gerebig Bungalows. Certainly not upmarket but very clean, comfortable and fairly cheap. Lovely family to chat to. Situated surrounded by rice padi. The locals around there are great to stop and have a chat to. You have done very well to decide to go elsewhere than Kuta etc.! One of the best eateries in Ubud area is located in the rice padis of Penestanan - Made's Warung. Just get there and enjoy, don't hesitate, you will be pleased!
