Congratulations, on deciding to say somewhere other than Kuta/Legian. Ubud is a pleasant location, but not quite far from the madding crowd of tourists as one might think, but a darm good start. Although not having stayed at Ananda Cottages, I know where this hotel is. It is about a 20/25 minute walk for a reasonably fit person to the centre of Ubud / Markets. However many hotels provide a mini-bus service into Ubud in the morning and Ananda might just do this for you. Aparently Ananda looks out on to rice paddies - very nice. There are other hotel choices in this price bracket if this is one of the reasons for selecting this hotel. We tend to stay budget hotels, because it then provides us with more dollars to donate to worthy causes and have never found ourselfs wanting or lacking anything for doing so. We will be in Ubud for 5 days in August and will enjoy a number of walks, incuding the ridge walk. I will seek out an email address for a map of the area for you.
