Same thing happened to my husband and 2 sons in September 04. Their scheduled 8.30am departure was delayed and they were finally told about 4pm that afternoon that it wasnt going to happen - so all passengers got shipped off to various hotels for the night on the understanding that they would depart first thing next morning. mmmm next morning plane again delayed and finally they got a Emriates flight to detour from melbourne to pick them up and take them all to Singapore and Garuda then organised a flight to Denpasar for them. It was very stressful - for them all and for me as well - who was waiting in Bali for them. I am with 'merrilau' though, better to find mechanical faults before you are in the sky - and we did the same as bluey - put complaint in writing to garuda but didnt get reimbursement for air tickets but for other expenses - including loss of work time, phone calls from Bali, accomodation etc
