The first time I went to Bali (back in the mid 70's) I stayed at a losman in Kuta. Their residant massage lady was quite an old lady and used plain white rice. My memory is a bit vague but I think she just massaged the skin with it, it was like an exfoliant, the sarong she put on the bed was covered in dry skin that had rubbed off.I guess it was followed with an oil massage but I remember my skin feeling so fresh after shedding all the dead skin.
The one I experienced this trip was up a little arcade off jl Sahadewa (just past Legends Bar & on same side)Cant remember the name but it was the one at the far end of the shops not to be confused with the Tapa Spa( about halfway along) where I had the cream hair bath. Unfortunately it wasnt actually what I wanted as the girl combined the rice with the oil so to me it didnt have the desired exfoliating effect. However every thing is an experience..It cost rp 60,000.
Lots of the salons eg Padma or Melasti etc do have body scrubs but its more of a dessicated coconut sort of paste and not like my original. Good luck and if you find the real deal let me know...
