I have stayed at the Shangrila, a nice newish place. Two English guys run it one is David I can't remember the other dude. They also manage a sports bar on the main drag. Just a suggestion if do the Amed trip for a bit of snorkelling go a bit further and have a look at the Liberty wreck at Tulumben. Eye balled my first sea snake in it's natural habitat at Amed. In the past I haved hired a prahu (canoe) to snorkel at Blue Lagoon and White Sand beach, but a fun day is to catch a local bemo to Padang Bai and walk to Blue Lagoon. Cheaper and more adventurous (fun) and well sign posted.
Great to see people getting out of Kuta for a look around the Island, it has soooo much to offer.
Have a great holiday.
Cheers.
PS. Love to eat at Vincents - fantastic smoked salmon. Also Warung Puspa - they also have a good driver/ guide.
