I had this issue with my son when overseas and he had chicken pox.
We changed our dates 3 times before he was cleared to fly.
We had a doctors certificate and airline had a person who kept in contact with us.
We never got charged for changing our dates or anything. We were on a package holiday as well. But we did have travel insurance to cover the extra 10 days of hotel, medical costs.
We had no problems at all. Mind you they probably didnt want a whole plane load of people infected with chicken pox!!!!!
