Painstop and Phernegan are not to be used by children under the age of 2. You could do some damage. I had a chemist who was reluctant to sell me Phernegan for a 22month old for this reason. Phernegan, for older children, can have the reverse effect and should be tested before using it for plane flight. The last thing other passengers and the parents need is a child with hyperactivity.
I have a daughter who suffers terribly with her ears. She has had four sets of grommets. If they are a little older I give them a packet of chips or a few lollies during take off and landing. If they are younger, a bottle of milk. This helps with the sucking and chewing motion as described by others. Take lots of little things to distract them but use medicine as a last resort not a first resort
