As far as I'm aware, if you purchase them outside of Australia then they can not be claimed through Medicare. Medicare only pays for items provided by Australian Provider Number holders.
It is also the same for purchasing say sunglasses outside of Australia and claiming them on tax if you work outside. Can't be done as the receipt does not show as being purchased in Australia.
I may be incorrect here, but that was the info I was given by an Accountant. I also think I remember reading the Medicare thing last month on BTF.
