Day seven Friday, Today will be Alan's last full day before he goes back to Perth so we are going to try and fit in as much as we can?
After brekkie we head to the swim up bar and plan our mode of attack! LOL firstly I ask Alan what time he needs to go to Centro to pick up his new glasses. Well they will not be ready till late afternoon so we are going to see our friends at our favourite DVD store. The Girls are all smiles as usual when we enter the place and as there are a few customers I do my bit to advise them that this is a great DVD store and our friends have good quality and will tell you if its not a good copy or replace or refund with no problems. In six trips to Bali and many times to this store I have bought two DVD's that were dud's so that's not bad odds and they were replaced with a smile and a DVD that worked. J
I'm still on the look out for a couple of watches and Alan cannot believe that I still have not bought even one on this trip. I just tell him I'm interested in nice ones that catch my eye and I don't buy watches just for the sake of buying them, in fact on my last two trips only got a couple and bought two real watches that I liked very much. For those that do not know I like my Silver and good watches, I'm not into Gold I only buy it as gifts!!J
We wonder down Legian Street and its very quiet which is very different to how it was this time last year, we were here in Feb 2005 and it was really busy all the time and it was difficult to get into some of the stalls but now no problem you are able to walk into all of them and at times its very hard to get out as the sellers are very desperate to sell even if its something small. Although mostly they would try and sell you two or more of everything. It's very sad to see Bali and its lovely people in this much pain; we do our best to help.
As we go past we wave to the staff at Nero's saying we might be back later in the day, we hop into a cab and head off to Centro to have a last look for Alan at the DVD store there, our favourite saying this week has been 'there is always room in your case for one more DVD' LOL
We also just enjoy wondering around looking at the shops and comparing the prices to Perth, Some things like white goods are very much cheaper and things like electronics are about the same or a little higher so you need to be careful or you might find you have not got such a great bargain. Some things are almost not even available her such as mp3 players and if you can find them they are not cheap at all, I did find things like memory chips for digital camera's are very good price. Will have to get one for my digital video camera next time for still pics.
For those that have been to Centro there is a great smelling place called bread talk on the front of the place it looks great but I have not eaten here as I like to eat at restaurants and eat different types of food all the time, although saying that I do go to some places on a regular basis like Nero's, Legian Garden. Speaking of Legian Garden if anyone has a recent picture of the front where the sign is I would like to compare it to one I took back in 1989? I feel that the main sign on Melasti Street is still there, be interesting to compare them.
I even had KFC on my last visit and before you ask it was Ketut's idea as we had been shopping in the Gold Street in Denpasar, as I said before I like to buy Gold as gifts. And Ketut was thinking she would take me to get KFC for a treat!! J Got to love it! Well I will say it was a little different to what we would get here in Perth. For starters the chicken was a cross between out regular and the spicy hot stuff, and no chips, oh my god how can I eat chicken without chips? Ketut had steamed rice with hers and looking at the menu there was rice dishes and soups and other Indonesian dishes. I ended up with same as Ketut and went with the steamed rice.
After out trip to Centro Alan and I went to Legian Garden for lunch then back to the hotel for a rest and a few drinks at the bar, before I headed off to my room to watch a DVD. As stated before I like to have a nanna nap in the early late afternoon to give me a rest and charge up the batteries for the evening outings!! J
About five we get a cab to go pick up Alan's glasses and he is very happy with them, they look good and are at least a couple hundred dollars cheaper than he could get them in Perth as these are graduated lenses and are very expensive also the service here has been really great and I have ordered my pair yesterday and look forward to picking them up next week.
After a quick walk around the mall we head off to dinner at Nero's Alan's choice as its his last night in Bali this trip and by this time tomorrow he will be in the airport waiting for the flight to go home, not my favourite part of the holiday as its very the end. Now we have a great dinner Alan has tried a few different things off the menu and he is really happy with every meal he has tried. Again tonight its very quiet and we are not the only ones here but not many more.
After dinner we walk over the road to a stall I bought a couple of guitars the other day as Alan thought he would buy a couple as well. The ones I had got were all gone I had bought two electric versions about twelve fourteen inches long, in the end Alan chose a acustic one same size. I must get a set of the little drums to go with my guitar collection next visit. We head back to the hotel and after Alan puts his stuff in his room he meets me down at the bar for a few drinks, we chat with a few people staying at the hotel and the bar staff. It's the end of another day in Paradise and Alan's last so its good to spend some times just talking about what a great time its been and Alan has surprised me by saying he is going to start planning his next trip to Bali!!
What surprises me about this is that this and the last trip was on my prompting so I guess you could say Alan now has the bug, it sure can be contagious? LOL
