These are a few we tried and enjoyed
Around Kuta:
Ketupat on Jl Legian - beautiful truly authentic Balinese food, best to book, ask for a table on the balcony overlooking the pool, the best Beef Rendang I have ever had. Beautiful staff, as you would expect in Bali.
Poppies and TJ's in Poppies 1 - old favourites, still good. Who would have thought my best Mexican restaurant would be in Bali.
Un's - just off Poppies 1 - Great food, setting and music.
Koris on Poppies 2 - same as above, music on fridays.
Ubud:
Mozaic - expensive but the BEST restaurant in Bali. Try the chefs tasting menu matched with wines. Around $AUD100 but truly worth it. Need to book, ask for a table in the garden. A real experience.
Cafe Indus - best for lunch as the view is spectacular, as is the food
Terazo - modern , good service and food
Cafe Wayan - still excellent and lovely setting for a romantic dinner.
Cafe Lotus - always worth a visit, best to book if you want a table by the lotus pond.
The Bridge restaurant - by the bridge, derr!, wood oven pizzas, fantastic setting and view, extremley friendly staff
Murnis on the other side of the bridge, another old favourite, best to book a table on on of the lower level balconies for the best view of the river etc. Very good food. Superb view.
Candi Dasa:
Watergarden - Great setting and food
Kedai - ditto
Bedugul area:
Pacung Indah - fine food with "a view to dine for" - breathtaking. Very friendly staff and well run by David and Moira. A few nights there will be well worth it as the area is beautiful and very peaceful. I still miss the view of Mt. Agung in the morning. (somehow Mt. Lofty just doesn't cut it)
Should try Crackers Bar and grill in the markets. We just missed the opening last trip, but next time will be there.
The one thing we noticed on our last trip was the huge lift in quality of restaurats,we hope this continues.
Hope this helps, but damm, my Sunday will be now spent regretting not being back eating (and drinking) myself stupid in beautiful Bali.
Sing ken ken
Cheers - Rodger
