Day six Thursday, Well it's another day in Paradise but I'm feeling a little flat with Ketut still not here. After a shower I get up writing an SMS to Ketut just to say I'm thinking of her and missing her so much.
A little later I meet Alan for brekkie and we talk about the day ahead? Today he will pick up his leather jacket and pants made by Dolphin Leather on Garlic Lane. I have purchases a few items over the years and this is Alan's third jacket, in two trips, he also has had a motor bike boots and full leathers made all to a great quality and he is very happy with their work as am I and happy to recommend this place to anyone looking at leather goods in Bali. Nothing can beat a custom fit leather jacket.
I know some bad people steal things like leather jackets but I always have a small laugh when I think about it happening to me as my jacket being tailor made has one arm shorter than the other so it would look really stupid on anyone than me? That is unless the poor sod that pinched it has one arm shorter than the other like me? But hey what would the chance of that be? LOL
Now that we finish brekkie we are off out the hotel to just go looking at DVD's mostly from out favourite store and maybe if we get that far from the Discovery Mall. I'm still looking for watches and stop at a few places but not much I like around this trip? I know you might be thinking that's impossible being that there are just so many sellers with them and they have so many to choose from but I have a particular want when it comes to watches so I do find it difficult to find just what I like at times.
Again as with the past few days the streets are void of Aussies and I'm feeling sad for our friends in Bali trying to make a living in this environment can not be easy, but you know they are still the same big smiles happy to chat to us and it is just amazing. You do hear a lot of people saying that they are scared for there family as they can not make enough to feed them properly and I have seen on this trip so many old blokes with young looking girls (enough said) I can understand why a woman would do what ever she can to feed her children but its still not a good look and I really think it gives Aussies a bad look in Bali, mind you there is a lot of women doing same with young Bali boys too, again not a good look. I think it's very hard to believe a person saying they care about the Balinese, and they turn around and take advantage of them in this fashion. I might get flamed for this JBR but I feel strongly about these people being used and abused in this way. It may sound like a contradiction but I think prostitution has its place in society but what goes on in Bali is wrong because in some cases it gives the girl or boy a false idea of right and wrong. Also I think it can fool them into thinking this will be permanent but the money dries up as soon as the fellow or woman leaves Bali.
Now on with my JBR being that both Alan and like walking in Bali we have again made our way down to Kuta square. We went in to Matahari shopping centre and looked around Alan got a few things including shoes, me I got some undies!!
After we left there we went back to the hotel to drop stuff off then out to Legian Garden for lunch before going to Dolphin Leather so Alan can pick up his pants and jacket. Lunch was nice as usual but again the place was very quiet other than Alan and I there was one other couple in the place, the staff do spend more time with you when things are this quiet but I feel sad for them and they like staff in other places are looking at other ways of earning more income trough extra shifts or selling many different things like DVD's. I have even had women say they would like to go to Australia to do work like domestics and send money back to their family. This was something I never heard before and told me things really were bad for the locals.
After collecting Alan's leather goods we headed off to the hotel for a much-needed rest and to have a few drinks then, watch a couple DVD's till dinnertime.
Dinner time and We head out to Nero's for a nice meal with out favourite staff, as is early and a little quiet we enjoy good conversation with the staff. After dinner we head off to just wonder the streets to look at the shops and see if there is many people out and about. As there is a little life we decide to walk home to the hotel having a drink or two on the way back.
Cheers to all that is reading my JBR's
