Menjangan Island. It is simply the best .... you can stay at Pemarutan, about 15 km from where the boats with the national park rangers leave from. I stayed at Taman Sari and loved it, thought it the best of the few hotels there as you can also snorkel straight out the front of the hotel beach where there is a coral regeneration program happening. The other idea is a village cultural exchange program, you have to be prepared to use traditional toilets and mandi's for washing, but you will be rewarded to a true insight into village life, be involved with their everyday activities as well as visiting the local school children at school etc. Details of the program can be obtained from the co-ordinator, Wayan Endra on homestaybali@hotmail.com The small village is at Ngis, north of Tabanan. Haven't got the website handy but you will find it doing a search under Tabanan Homestay Program. Email me if you want more details.
