I have just checked with Zurich Insurance who provide travel insurance for Citibank Gold cardholders. All travel costs must be paid with the visa card to receive their travel insurance and they will pay on claims regarding airline insolvency. The first step is to lodge a transaction dispute with the bank (ie Citibank) and any monies that are not refunded by the bank will be paid in full by Zurich.
I travelled to Bali last year, and had to make a claim for a stolen ATM card (and subsequent unauthorised withdrawals). The travel insurance I paid for with CGU did not cover my claim, however Zurich paid in full including the $5 transaction fees for each unauthorised transaction. So to cut a long story short, I have found Zurich to provide excellent service and to pay claims without too much difficulty.
