Around Bemo Corner the dreaded call to splatter came upon me, in full, dreaded, painful urgency.

Headed for The Pub, at that time adjacent, only to find them shut on Monday. Back to Pub Bagus where I asked for Wece and had directions immediately pointed out to the poor man in extremis. Wot no paper? In my faulty Bahasa, I asked, "Ada karcis untuk wece?", meaning "Is there paper for the toilet?" but mistakenly saying "Is there a ticket for the toilet?" Answer "Tidak perlu" no ticket needed. Thinks I "Bleddy primitives"

Staggered painfully 200 metres to a Warung to buy some. The Loo Paper was on the top shelf, not a much-sold article in those days. The lady owner was very pregnant so I had to climb a ladder; can you imagine? Paid only three times the going price, of course and quicky too!

Staggered back bent over, to Pub Bagus. Onto the seat of mercy. Sat, exploded/cascaded non-stop for some minutes and looked around when something caught me eye. What was that on the lintel above the door? Not one but four rolls of the much-needed commodity.

Lesson well demonstrated namely the difference between Kertas and Karcis. Somehow those words are ingrained very positively in the old brain-box.

Peter wiser now
