there's a list somewhere of the best loos - think it is Filos's site - and they are rated out of 10 ... the non-western ones are to be avoided if possible, you will know what I mean when you have to use one ! If you are going cross country to visit temples etc then wear closed-in shoes and make sure trouser & skirt hems are off the ground .. I always take some wet ones and a small pile of paper , even washing your hands can be difficult so those antiseptic gels or wipes are handy
If you are desperate can always duck into any tourist hotel, just ask at reception or smile, nod and head towards the wc sign, they will never stop you :-)
