I stayed at Istana Rama for 17 nights last Nov. The room was lovely, we were upgraded to a garden suite so I can't comment on the standard rooms. The staff were really nice. We had a problem with getting ripped off big time with changing money on Jalan Legian and the staff were really helpful, took us to the tourist police, and we got our money back. The beach is right accross the road, and Jalan Melasti and Kuta square within walking distance. The only thing which I found dissapointing was that the hotel was so quiet that the swim-up bar was closed 95% of the time, but you could still order drinks from the bar. I haven't stayed at Seaview cottages, but I'd be happy to answer any other questions you might have.
