We stayed at the Tegal Sari in February of this year and it was better than we had been led to believe. We stayed in room #23 (one of the new super deluxe rooms) and it was the best appointed and most comfortable room imaginable. The tub was amazing. Odd number rooms are downstairs and the upper rooms are even (this applies to the new super deluxe rooms). The breakfast is basic, there is no bar and no TV. If you can get past that, this hotel will teach you what service truly is. The laundry, mini bar and pool drinks are street prices. They will drive you anywhere 24 hours a day. They will even tell you where to go. We couldn't have enjoyed it more. Already booked for next February. Leaving the hotel 50 meters to the left is the Nuriani which is a really good restaurant facing the rice fields and very reasonable. Another 100 meters across the street is the Barandi which is a little more upscale and really great. Dirty Duck and Warung Enak are there too, but outside my price range and highly recommended. Book way in advance and specify that you don't want to move from room to room and you don't want the room opposite the desk. It only runs $25US but has little privacy and no view. It used to be the reception area, but is now a room. It is the only room at that price, and you can get the number on their web site. Good luck, jingles
