I often ponder this myself. For me it is to spread my charity broadly and in a personal way that I feel comfortable with.
I have given a box of food to a close family member in need. I give to clothing bins & disaster appeals where I believe personally in the cause. Ive lived through disasters in Aus and seen much waste as well.
I have devoted my time and energy as a accredited sports coach to provide opportunity for principally aboriginal persons and others on a low eco scale and otherwise unable to have the chance.
Im in the planning process of sponsoring a child - and it will be a Balinese sponsorship one that I can physically see the reaps of my contribution no matter how small. that is my choice.
Centrelink - well ? at least we have one. Its not easy to administer welfare. I honestly have little empathy for those that first dont try and help themselves here in our lucky country. The problem is HUGE and so very complex. I will say that when I go to work each week I detest being humbugged to cash in food vouchers...for cigarettes.. for $1 bus so can go hospital..( outside adjoining Hotel) for a feed ...for you name it!! Charity aint gonna start in this home. Again my personal choice as with anyones.
