Hi Bob and thanks for the posting.
Have been to Bali 4 times as part of my job but will be going for the first time with my partner on the 7th Feb for a weeks holiday (before working for two weeks).
Im very interested to know the best way to go about helping out a family financially. My partner signed up to sponsor a child the 'usual' way a while ago and to tell the truth Ive always been a bit cynical of these programs. We are not wealthy (by western standards) but I have met a lot of wonderful people through my job in Bali and always bring them lots of useful things. I read your posting and think its fantastic what you are doing and would like to hear how you, or others doing similar, instigated the process.
Also, in regards to Garuda excess baggage, would like to know if others travelling at the moment have had trouble with weight limits. Do they sting you if youve got 21kg? In my experience (on other airlines) they at least let you carry 25, sometimes 30kg before they look worried!
Havent travelled Garuda before, been reading about the cancelled flights, delays etc..but am looking forward to the new experience.
Are most Garuda flights pretty full at the moment? I figure this has an effect on how strict they are with excess baggage.
Last trip to Bali, mid last year, I took 80kg to Bali on Air Paradise and had no problem. The flight was reasonable full, guess I just checked in real early. I find this helps.
Look forward to posting my JBR in March.
