Gill, It is so easy, when you come out of airport in Bali, just go to the right and there is a counter there where you can order a taxi to your hotel, set price depending where it is but always cheap. At least you go straight there, if you get transfers you may do a million hotels before you get to yours!!
As far as where to stay it depends on the standard you require. Years ago I stayed at the BIG flash hotels and yes they are great if you want luxury,I have seen the Puri Raja but not stayed there.
I have stayed at the Kartika Plaza, Santika Beach, Dynasty- all in Tuban,also Legian Paradiso and Kuta Beach Club - now I stay where I have clean, comfortable accomodation and really personal service, only 27 rooms!! Sinar Bali Hotel is in Padma Utara street in Legian and it is a super little hotel but dont expect a lot when it comes to dining!!However there are so many great eateries nearby that it doesnt matter!. Joanne there will be more than happy to braid your daughters hair and she gives a damn good massage as well!!!She also does manicures when she has the custom!!
As far as drivers go, they have a resident driver who will be there when you need him!!
