We were there after new year and I didn't see a single policeman or soldier except for the airport. Some of the hotels have stepped up their security in checking vehicles entering into hotels but other than that, we didn't evidence any significant increase in security.
Mind you, there were times when we couldn't see any tourists either so I guess it balances out.
I think the scare mongerers on the forum have just about run themselves out (watch that draw the crabs).
Just go - have fun - but be sensible (avoid restaurants full of Aussies in singlets). There is more probabilty of terrorist activity here in Oz than there is in Bali.
