We stayed in Ubud when we climbed the mountain. We Were picked up about 1:30am and got to the Foot of the Volcano about 3:30am for a 4am start.

Was cold take a jacket. The climb is hard but worth it. Seems scary at first (Bali = no OH&S , no safty ropes or proper paths or anything) Do the LONG journey is well worth it. The guys at the bottom of the volcano will try to make you pay $100US don't pay that much - We got ours for 200K Rupes each. (2 of us)

You will be tired by the end. I suggest going down to the resort by the lake where the Hot springs are - for $10 you can swim in their pool and have a much needed shower (as it's few hours back to UBUD and you will be stinky and bothered) and also you can get into the Hot springs water, very good for muscles.

Take a camera and go all the way - was one of my best memories from bali.

Cheers have fun

P.S. These little fellas will try and sell you coke and stuff when you get to the top. If they help you you are expected to buy.
