When we arrive in Bali I go and get an XL phone card. Worked out the 3rd time I went to get credit I discovered I was getting ripped off by a stall infront of a supermarket in Legian Street (Can't recall the name). When I was getting the credit say 100,000rph they charged me 110,000rph telling me the 10,000rph was for tax. Only by chance went to get more credit there and they were closed and someone redirected us across the road down a street. Asked for the 100,000rph credit and had the extra 10,000rph handy and they said only 100,000 plus when credit went to phone got an extra 9,000rph worth of credit. Needles to say this is where we got all our credit from, from then on.
When we travel to the Camplung Mas we take our portable DVD player as the hotel does not have in-house movies. We purchased this particular one last year for about A$71. At the time this was very reasonable. It is the type that does not have a screen. DVD's are so plentiful. Like the idea they come in little plastic wrappers now instead of the box. Found a great DVD shop just around the corner from our hotel (Camplung Mas) called Love Comp Centre. Buy 3 get one free, buy 8 get 3 free, buy 10 get 4 free etc or you can pay 8,00rph each. They have some DVD holders in allsorted sizes, for 50,000rph you can get a holder that holds 50 DVD's. Brought about 3 of these during our stay. These saved us space in the suitcase plus handy for home when looking at your DVD's.
Brought from a few other shops but found the quality better at Love and no problem when we returned a DVD that was of poor quality/faulty. One shop hubby went to in Padma Street had 8 faulty out of 18 and these were not the latest release DVD's. Hubby's picks the oldest, strangest DVD, we had a good laugh one day when we found one he brought was made in 1952 and was in black and white, I think it was called "the wild one".
The guys decided to go for a motorbike ride one morning. The guys out the front of the hotel always ask them if they want motorbike ride so they climbed on the back, paid the guy 60,000rph each and went for a couple of hours. When they came back they were both windburnt and George complained bitterly about his sore arse. Have you often wondered when you see motorbike riders with long shirts on etc like they are riding in a blizzard, now we no why. George is quiet a heavy set guy, full of muscle but does sport a beer belly.
Had to laugh as on quiet a few occasions he was asked when he was due, his reply was it was a baby kangeroo which brought all to laughter. While the guys were out riding one of the bikes run out of petrol, so the driver had to push the bike to a stall (not far) to get some more fuel. The guys really enjoyed themselves, sounded like they went all over the place in such a short time.
Us girls headed for Bemo corner to change money and walked our way back to the hotel looking at just about every shop. Called into a few resturants for a Bintang and cocktail. On the forum someone recommended a resturant tucked away just about opposite the Bagus Bar in Poppies 2 called Ratu Resturant. Was this a good find. Beer very cold, menu very large and the food was close to been one of the best meals we had. A large beer was only 12,000rph (normal price), lemon squash 6,500rph, Avocado Seafood Cocktail or Shrim Cocktail 15,000rph each, Spring Rolls (3) 11,000rph, chicken satay 21,000rph, bihune (rice noodle) 17,500rph very nice, Nasi Goreng 18,000rph. They have happy hour from 3pm - 6pm. This resturant is certainly worth popping into if your in Poppies 2.
About every 3 days we would take our laundry to our favourit Laundry called the Bagus Laundry. It is 2 bends away from our hotel heading towards Kuta. Who would ever think you could get your laundry done for an average of 18cents. I have a price list if anyone wants it. Laundry is ready by the next day and if you get it in early enough (say by 10.30am) you can usually pick it up early in the evening. The laundry closes at 7pm.
Next report I'll put some of our shopping prices of things we brought
