Would definately suggest hiring a driver and definately recommend my driver and now friend Made Mangku his contact details are ph 001162 8123931887 from Aus or in Bali 08123931887. if interested best to send a simple text to check dates etc he will usually respond quickly. then give him a call on arrival in bali.
I know Made has 2 of his own cars a normal one plus a small van plus his brother is also a driver. Sometimes this is actually a better arrangement as you can all go out together but if someone wants to stop somewhere else on the way back to hotel ie shop,supermarket etc much easier for everyone and then everyones happy. There were 11 of us in Sept and worked well.
Made is very trustworthy and reliable and has 2 kids of his own. His rate is quite reasonable and worth every cent its around 350,000 per day but he will just take you for part days or a few hrs shopping or to the restaurants. Just tell him i recommended him as i talk text him often.
There are heaps of things to do.. My daughter is 8and been a few times before and loved the elephant park. We also tend to do a trip where Made picks us up at 8 to head up to Ubud where we stop at a kite making shop usually buy a few for presnts then onto Bali Zoo can have photos with snakes,toucans etc then foe a quick stop at the monkey forest and then to the Lotus Cafe in ubud for lunch which has a really nice outlook and prob end up back in Legian around3.30 for a swim.
Also if you go to Discovery Mall and have the kids with you stop off at the timezone where they have amusement games cheap for some entertainment for a bit of peace.
Bubba Gumps is quite good for kids but just share a few meals as we dont tend to eat all of them.
For the kids if they can swim Waterbom park is great good to go by 9 am before its busy but prob no worries at present.
If any of the kids are girls nice to have the name bracelets made with the aust. gold coins everybody who ive had them made for loves them . If you want any Made can also arrange this best to take an old bangle that fits for size or get the open ended ones made.
If down near the Dynasty the kids pool there has a great waterlide and can take kids into Gracie Kellys Irish pub for a meal until 9 pm. You may find my the kids need to eat early or theyll be asllep before you get out.
We also hired a dvd player for our room more for my daughter to have relax out of the sun
