Not sure if your going over alone or with friends or family which will make a difference with suggestions..BUT if you havent been before would definately suggest you get a driver. Can suggest the one i use who is extremely reliable and trustworthy.
His name is Made Mangku .If interested best to send a simple text which he will normally get back to you quickly re dates etc then give him a call on arrival into Bali. His ph No from Aust is 001162 8123931887 or in bali 08123931887. Not sure if your in the States where codes may be different.
A full days rates are around 350,000 and worth every cent /dime..
Made will also just take you out for a few hrs which is sometimes enough or just to restaurants etc and will wait or return to pick you up. No problems about leaving belongings in the car etc.
If your heading Ubud way the Elephant Park with Bali Adventure tours is a bit expens. but heaps worth it. If you leave Kuta around 8am youll be back around 3ish pick up from the hotel is include.
I have also been to the Bali Zoo a few times which is quite good for a small one allow around 1 hr or so then head to the monkeyforest w for a 15 min stroll and suggest you dont take in any food to avoid bites etc
From there to the centre of Ubud to have lunch i like the Lotus Cafe with nice views then can wander to shops or market and head back to Kuta for a swim by about 3.
If you go into Denpasar stop for a 10 min walk around the Bird Market on the way they sell birds fish monkeys etc.
Waterbom Park best to go early can just get pool chairs or hire a cabana for the day great for all ages.
Havent done this but heard the cycling tours are great.
If heading towards the top of Bali can stop near Kintamani plus the hot springs on the way.
If you get a chance to see a cremation ceremony this is interesting.
Surfing,Banana boating,parasailing, boat over to Nusa Lembongan to snorkel or stay on the island.
Definately massages...
Reptile park, Bird Park both up around UbUd.
Nightlife i loved the show at Hulus bar best to be there about 1045 pm thought it was quite funny with no entrance fee and reasonable drink prices goes for about an hr.
Shopping,shopping shopping..
Dinner on the beach at Jimbaran Bay excellent for the sunset get picked up around 4,30 from hotel in Kuta.
Spend some time talking to tyhe people to have the best time..
