We had the same dilema at Christmas time, we had our trip booked for Bali, but I had cold feet, we live less than 2 hours from the Gold Coast and that was our alternative. We go the GC probably around 4 times a year. I am soooo glad we went to Bali, the kids had a ball (ours are 8 & 11), it was a fabulous family holiday quality time together and so many great memories. The Gold Coast is great, fantastic beaches but eating out and going to all the "worlds" as you will no doubt be talked into doing can be enormously expensive, and I don't think you get the same sense of family holiday that you do going to Bali - mind you probably a bit biased just back from a great holiday.
