I think with the way things are there will be many sad stories, we unfortuntely can't help them all, we also have to be careful there is no greed as well. Even when times were better(than now) I was finding people being greedy the more you give the more they want. (now this just doesn't stop with Balinese.)
It is a hard one. We all work hard for our money and I think we all want it to be shared around, as you said there are many ways to help but be in saying that we still need to be careful how our hard earned $ is spent in the right places and there is nothing wrong with being careful.
By going to Bali and spending money is helping the economy but also sadly we can't buy off everyone we have to remember 20 kilos :-( There are many ways I try to help but i will not hand over cash unless it is to people like the rotary etc.
