Have stayed at both and both are great in their own right. I certainly preferred tegal sari, but Ubud Village is a little more expensive and has a few more amenities. I preferred Tegal Sari's view, but Ubud Villages rooms were better. Then again, the day bed at Tegal Sari made the whole experience of lying in front of the rice fields as the sun sets an amazing one.
Whatever the case, I'd be very happy to stay at both next time and certainly would recommend these. Also, don't worry about Tegal Sari's location unless you are very unfit. It's not that far away from the main strip.
