My now very much ex-boyfriend eventually came to look at me only as a fat wallet on legs. He promised a lot, like "I shall come to your country, I will love you and I shall live with you forever and help you with everything (like cleaning the house)". Fortunately I came to find out that he was married and had five children - and his biggest aim in life was to rather clean my bank account than my house.
Not only did he want a new motorbike (he got a second hand albeit quite good one) but somewhat later also wanted a new car and a good, big house "for us when we come to Bali". When he did not get the new car or the big house he became very, very aggressive and threatening. Fortunately I had made friends with some strong people in his village and they eventually took really "good" care of him the traditional rough way as they realised that he was giving Bali a bad name. For sure he won't bother tourists anymore.
Love was as always blind but after a visit to the mental optician, I got to see things better. I can see more clearly now. Enjoy as long as love and romance last but at least be prepared should attitudes suddenly change as they might do, be it in the West or in the East, the South or the North. The Balinese are, after all on home territory while in Bali - you are not! And there are no Tampertells for your heart.
