Last time Miss R and I left Bali in August 05 flying Garuda we were very discreetly told that we were both 30 kg and were only allowed 20!!! We tried the old chestnut "We have been helping the Balinese economy SORRY BOSS!!!" Maybe we were lucky we got a bad one?? He asked us for 100,000rph each. My friend had it so OK, I had spent all my money giving my last small money to my Balinese friends to have some Mansion House Whisky to celebrate our departure and a return to normal Hindu and Muslim Life!! LUCKY I had found a crumpled $10 note in my special Bali purse. THAT WAS ENOUGH!! Hooray. We have now decided that when we know we will be over we will put our 100,000rph departure tax in our passport when we hand it over at baggage check in. They can interpret that as they will. If they think we are trying corruption we can act ignorant,because after all this is what we need to leave the country??!!Lets see if it works in Feb?
The two of us have constantly over the last 10 trips been 10kg over and not had a problem except Feb 05 we travelled with 3 other friends who shop till they Bl***y drop!!! Surprise Surprise we al check in and me and Miss R have 30 as per normal as does one other friend. THE OTHER TWO HAVE 47 KG EACH!!!! One hour of negotiation later they have granted us all 30 so we are COOL!! Our other two friends paid $150 each. So much for THEIR Shopping bargains.
AT THE END OF THE DAY WE MUST RESPECT THE FACT THAT THIS AIRCRAFT HAS TO GET OFF THE GROUNG LOL!!!!!!
On a serious note I have today been to the funeral of a great friend who I spent 2 holidays in Bali with in 2004 at Legian Paradiso in Feb and Dewi Sri with her kids in Aug. She died in a car cash 2 days before Xmas and at her funeral today it was mentioned her great love for Bali.I have had some very special messages from Balinese to wish her farewell! FAREWELL MY DARLING FRIEND LORRAIN - APACHE BAR AND PADDYS WILL NEVER SEE YOU BEHAVING LIKE A TOTAL NIGHTMARE EVER AGAINxxxxxxx
