I stayed in the Tjampuhan in an earlier visit. It was nice, but still I found it too expensive, to Indonesian standard. Well I guess they can ask this price ... the place seems to be full at all times.

I've been to Ubud 3 times and went to monkey forest quite a few times, but I don't remember the "climb" back to the center (football field, basar) as so steep. I do remember that it goes up but I wouldn't call that a climb. Probably we were too occupied by looking into all the little shops along the way and therefore didn't notice, or we just don't mind a bit of hiking.

Reason why I was asking for this place is that I can get real cheap flights (from Germany) if I book a "package" that includes at least one night in one of a few hotels to choose from, and this Champlung Sari is the cheapest of them. A flight alone would be considerably more expensive, so I don't really care about the price the operator charges for this hotel (which, by the way, is far below the rate they state on their website). But, as I don't want to risk anything getting stolen by monkeys, I won't go this place now. On an earlier visit a monkey in the Ulu Watu temple already stole my expensive, optical sunglasses, so I know that danger.

Usually I stay in places from 5 to 20 $ a night in Indonesia, and I am well aware that the rates you can get if you just walk into a place and haggle a bit are often far below what's stated on the website. And I think that's what I'll be doing.
