have been a long time visitor and I am brassed off.
Someone told me about the car park last night and I found it in a news search today. Those people who told me were asking how I felt about it as a Bali lover... they had cancelled, 2 had cancelled because of the latest warnings, 2 had cancelled post latest bomb, 2 had cancelled taking all things into consideration and were of the opinion that a country that can make a place where so many died including their own into a car park was probably one which wasn't worth visiting. That was their opinion, not mine, though it could be anyones opinion and it matters, they were bread and butter that is no more.
I am baffled that people here cannot see that this on top of all else is too much for some, in fact it might be too much for me, I don't know yet. If I and those I spoke of are a representation of the possible visitors, it isn't good is it.
I know people who have gone to Bali for years and years... no more.. enough is enough. I am not speaking now of the car park but they are all nails in the coffin.
I think is time we stopped making excuses and as tourists to Bali started helping them get on their feet, saying "there there" do what you like cos we love you no matter what will not help in the long term.
It is possible that a very different type of tourist will emerge from the ashes. I sure hope so and I hope Wayan, Made, Nyoman and Ketut survive till then.
