You can set up a free webmail account at a large number of sites. I have a hotmail account and an excite account. These can be accessed from any pc with a web browser, which is all of them. Some providers, such as optusnet, also have webmail access to your normal inbox, very handy.
When in Bali, I've used my excite account with great success, even on the slow connections in the internet cafes.
