The easiest/cheapest from airport is via taxi - they are fixed price from booth just outside arrivals (just to the right, look for the sign).
For other very good hints do a search on here for JBRs posted by Camille, she was backbacking around Indonesia for a few months and went to Lombok and Gilis. She gives very good advice on budget places to stay, and travelling around. If you are lucky she may read your post and answer the questions on here. Have a great trip!
