I like you am a self confessed news junkie, I can honestly say after a day or two I didn't really miss not seeing any Aust news - we were in Bali sept/oct 05 and on the night of Oct 1 found that reliable news was difficult to obtain initially apart from what we saw firsthand. I could not imagine staying anywhere in Bali and not knowing of the events that night. It was a topic we never brought up with any of the shop/market sellers but after finishing bargaining, we would stop for a chat and they all seamed to comment on the events of Oct 1.
What I really loved was taking my watch off in the departure gate in Melbourne and not putting it back on until the last night in Bali.
