I went to Java on my last trip to Indonesia and Yogya was one of the nicest places we visited. It is definitely worth the visit and so different to Bali. Make sure you fit in Borobodur and Prambanan temples. A rickshaw tour of the city (about 15,000 rp) is also a good way of seeing the town.
We paid just over 300,000 rp one way, DPS to Yogya - we just booked it at the airport in Bali.
Unfortunately can't recommend much for the hotel as we stayed in quite a basic hotel (perfectly nice and clean) for 25,000 rp. It was Hotel Indonesia for anyone considering a more basic option.
