Touting is a way of life in Bali,...and in fact many that work in the tourist industry make good money out of it....
Now this report on staff at Tjampuan,.. the possibility that the person stayed there at a quiet time ,.. or after a slump in occupancy (after the bombing) Hotels and bars and restaurant do lay off staff with no pay, or pay them a minimum wage only,.... many staff rely on the bonus they receive each month, the bonus is made up of the service charge on accommodation and purchases at the hotel,... if occupancy low the bonus will drop accordingly...or some hotels won't pay any saying they need the money just to cover wages,.... the result being the staff become aggressive and tout...
Just like those on this forum have complained about being harassed with offer of time share
Tjampuan hotels owned by the royal family of Ubud, and they are tough in business, if occupancy low the staff will do it hard....
