last time I came back I had bought a lovely wooden jewellery box from Geneva and the customs guy was a bit concerned about it so while I was waiting I mentioned to him that I had sprayed it heavily with insect spray and then wrapped it tightly in plastic bags for 24 hours to kill any bugs but he said that it wont do a thing for "borer" as it burrows right in and can lay dormant for up to 17 years !!!! (I work with imported furniture and had been told this was something we could do to treat signs of borer but obviuosly its an urban myth.) I do believ if you 'tap' your things and see any powdery stuff come out then it is actually the "excrement" of the borer and thats enough evidence to say that they are still alive and well .Another thing this customs guy told me !
