The upgrade is definitely worth it. I stayed there last July in a deluxe poolview room. The separate shower was worth it. I don't know if the standard rooms have an in room safe but the deluxe pool view do. I was in room 5208 which had a double bed and was upstairs with a balcony. I found the downstairs room with terrace had more mosquitoes, though some people prefer to walk straight out of their room into the pool. I will be there again in early February.
