I have bought some paintings but preferred the galleries although gee I had to go in to bat hard in negotiations. I preferred the gallery on the corner of Jl Bisma and Raya Ubud.
The gallery rolled the canvas in newspaper and I had no difficulties bringing the painting back in thru Aust customs.
I am not sure what to expect to pay for a good artist, a 1.5 x 1.5 canvas. Maybe 1 to 2 million rupiah as a guestimate.
Some oils are mass produced with a stencil firstly traced on to the canvas then coloured in with oils, whereas some artists genuinely create a new masterpiece each canvas.
