I was in Bali on and off from the start of July to mid-October this year, and saw the turtles being released about four or five times on Kuta Beach, throughout the three months. The 'boss' of the beach makes the whole thing into a turtle 'race' and you get a couple of bottles of bintang if you win (or you can give them to your parents if you are a child!). I happened to win the last race I participated in, but the prize had turned into a turtle photograph - bit of a let down at the time, but at least it was something I can keep! Hopefully there will be a race on when you are there anyway. Think it is just a matter of luck really.
