Sydney, my family came over in 64. But until the age of 8 I lived in a family entirely composed of very northern Yorkshire people. My family came from Sheffield, but had the most amazing northern Yorkshire accents. I didn't realize just how much dialect I had absorbed until on our trip in 2001, I was in a pub, and knew exactly the entire conversation between a couple of drunks in a pub. According to others, it was gibberish! It was a very life-changing experience, I did not realize how strong my Englishness was. I sort of consider myself as much English as I'm Aussie. I s'pose I'm just a mongrel, really.
