The best piece of advice I was given was that on my first day when I went out walking to ONLY take a little bit of money, enough for a drink and a taxi ride home if I got lost, and just to walk and look. That way you can't get in trouble, or over keen, and I found it really took the pressure off because I knew I couldn't buy/spend, but just to look, look, look.
Many years later, to walk and look, look, look is still my favourite thing.
