S&S and other reunions

I've always wondered. These reunions and get togethers. Ever go to one and think someone on the forum sounded really great but when you meet you wonder what you were thinking? It is certainly intriguing, how people can seem really great (in writing) but ICK in person.

Then again, other way around, you think someone's a jerkbag on the forum but have met them and wondered what you were thinking?

Obviously you probably don't want to mention names (eg "yeah, I thought that X was a pain in the bumhole but geez, when I met her I thought she was fabulous....") but wondered about people's experiences.
