When we first went to Bali in 1982 finding a loo was hell, keeping in mind you had to find one quickly. When you did find one the smell was revolting, even later when McDonalds opened in Legian, still the smell was there. I remember going into a loo, 30 odd degrees outside, 45 degrees in the loo, water all over the floor usually no paper. Had to squat over the loo, not let any part of your clothing touch the floor & hold nose at same time whilst holding your carry bag between your teeth. I learnt quickly to carry travel packs of tissues & washcloths and ferret out decent loos. The most exciting loo I discovered first was at Poppies, it was like heaven, clean with plenty of paper. I have visited Poppies every year since then mostly because I just love the place, food good & the loos are still clean. Now there are plenty of good loos, still carry the tissues.
