great you have warned others as it also happens on Lombok when you catch a boat to go to the Gili's. Years ago, being the naive person I was back then, someone held my camera as I climbed into the boat (guess what I thought they were just being nice) and then demanded money. When we arrived back on Lombok they tried to grab my camera again but I held it that tight it didn't happen a second time. They also wait at the waters edge with bottles of water to wash your feet as you come ashore and before you know what is happening they are pouring water on your feet demanding money. Needless to say when you trudge through the sand to get on to the path your feet are full of sand again so to me it is a scam and it can get really nasty when it comes to paying them.
